While there are a number of photographers that are well-known in many countries, I guess that most of us look up to and get inspiration from skilled photographers that are perhaps known on a national, regional or even local level. It could be interesting to see images from those photographers that inpsire you, right now.

I'll start off by tossing in a couple:

  • Terje Hellesø - Norwegian nature photographer living in Sweden; publisher of a handful of books.
  • Brutus Östling - Swedish photographer specializing in birds. Extremely productive (has published nearly one ambitious book a year the last few years). Not so many images on his website, though.
  • Hans Strand - Swedish photographer, mainly landscapes, has published a couple of books.

Now, these are nature photographers, mainly because that is my personal interest. It would, however, be interesting to see inspiring work from all kinds of photographers.

Hmm ... where to start, ok top few inspirations currently:

  • Chase Jarvis, I'd say most people have heard of him, but I particularly like what he did with his best camera app / book. After all photography is not really about the camera itself.
  • rebekkaguðleifsdóttir, self taught photographer who is big on flickr, I stumbled on to her blog a little while ago.
  • Joey L, a Canadian photographer who shot the twilight posters, he also travels quite a bit and posts some stunning shots from his trips.
  • And finally Brent Pearson AKA BrentBat, he does some stunning light painting shots.

I've held an interest in street photography that I don't explore enough.

Robert Frank is someone who inspires me to simply just shoot what's there and shoot a lot of it. He shot tens of thousands of rolls of film and within that he captured some wonderful standout photos. In those hundreds of thousands of photos he took, we get to see only a fraction of a percentage of what he shot. The camera will capture the street scene differently from how you're seeing it. Later in the lab or on the screen when your looking at your photos you'll find that rare gem capturing a unique moment or look.

Gallery of Robert Frank's selected works.

My current two favourites are Ken Rockwell and David Hobby of Strobist™ fame.

Ken has a strong going with me for his triades about shooting the right picture and de-emphasis of technology.

David has a brilliant knack for creating stunning pictures with little to zero on-site preparation.
