My Sigma flash has a multi-flash, or stroboscopic, option in that I can figure it to pulse the flash a certain number of times at a certain frequency. This is particularly cool for doing effects such as tracking the motion of an object like this yo-yo I shot:

The problem I have is that I want to do the same thing off-camera, but even with the X-sync cable it's a no go. I even tried party strobe lights (as in dance lights), but no go unless I buy professional grade versions because the power is way too low (like a guide number of a half inch to be honest). So... The question is, any good alternatives that won't cost an arm and a leg?

Apparently the pocket wizards and other wireless flash triggers just don't transmit the necessary curtain/gap information to the flash when it's off-camera. I can't find any information about using the canon brand wireless transmitter.

Though one of the first links I found is that it will work with Canon's own off camera hot-shoe cable. only problem is that that cable is bloody short...

Sound's like a home-brew-mod project to extend the length of the canon cable.

Info came from here

Looks Pentax has a similar option with full control and they seperated the adapter from the cable so you can get 3' and 9' cables for it. Looks like a decent option, even has a pass through so you can have a flash on the camera and off the camera fully wired. Now all I have to do is find it... :) – John Cavan Jan 27 at 12:03
Nice link by the way, it's the same flash as I'm using (Pentax edition). – John Cavan Jan 27 at 12:04
Canon's cable is also rather expensive for what it is (like all their accessories), unfortunately. – Roger Jan 27 at 23:39
