I'll be travelling later this year and will be doing some safari style tourism in South Africa. My question is what lenses to take for this purpose?

For hiking and general travel, I usually carry a 10-20mm for landscapes and 24-105mm for street/people etc, but I'm thinking that it would be worth taking the 70-200mm (105-300 w/ 1.5 extender) as well for wildlife shots. This is all on 1.6 crop factor cameras.

Is it worth taking all these lenses? Weight isn't so much of an issue, but I'm wondering if I'll get much use of them all.

I was just on a safari in Kenya and the lenses I used the most were the 70-200 and the 120-400 mm, both on a Canon 50D (crop sensor). Most of the images were wildlife, some people photography and landscapes for which I used my wide angle lens. You will really kick yourself if you go all the way to South Africa and then don't have the lens you need.

Go for a rental.

Canon 28-300 L on a cropped body :)

You'll very likely come want as much range as you can get and, while the Sun is very strong there, 300mm with a TC is not as good as 300mm without. So, if you follow Eoin's suggestion, and bring your TC and your 10-20mm, you'll have fantastic options.
